ROOTZ

A city extension between the trees

The former tax office Belcanto plays a key role in the redevelopment of Schalkwijk-Midden, a district set to transform into a vibrant, green, and dynamic living and working area. This ambitious project seeks to harmonize urban functionality with nature, creating a balanced and inviting environment for residents and visitors alike.

Central to the plan is the addition of 750 trees, weaving a lush forest landscape into the urban fabric. In this vision, buildings are seen as guests, blending seamlessly into the greenery and serving as a subtle backdrop to the natural surroundings. The project, named ROOTZ, embodies the concept of urbanity within a tree-filled landscape, with a diverse mix of buildings designed for living, working, and leisure.

During the transformation of the Belcanto site, sustainability and health take center stage. Innovative approaches are being employed to ensure a future-proof environment that fosters well-being and community connection. From green roofs and energy-efficient designs to accessible public spaces, every element contributes to creating a resilient neighborhood.

ROOTZ offers a new perspective on urban living by integrating architecture with nature. As Schalkwijk-Midden evolves, the Belcanto redevelopment sets the tone for a harmonious coexistence of people, buildings, and the natural world. This transformation exemplifies modern, forward-thinking urban design.
