BRICK INN
A place to share stories
A the top of Liechtenstein, the Sareis mountain, the Malbun restaurant serves as a gathering spot for skiers in winter and hikers in summer. On this site, a new hotel with a public restaurant and spa is wanted by the client. In this proposal, the architecture aims to strengthen the collectiveness of the visitors, making it into an inn. The organisation of spaces emphases privacy while fostering community among adventurous guests.
The building’s design flows with the mountain slope, cascading downward to create a terrace that with a distinct character. This abstract landscape reflects its elevated position, enhancing the connection with nature. A central void acts as the heart of the inn, where shared functions meet, promoting interaction between public and semi-public spaces, while guest rooms follow the slope for optimal views.
The layout features a ground floor lobby and restaurant, with the spa located on the lower level for privacy. Guest rooms are arranged in a 6-meter grid, accommodating both couples and groups. Main brick walls anchor the structure, connecting to the landscape, while wooden beams cantilever to form the terraced facade, showcasing material in all honesty of hierarchy.
Interior spaces use warm wooden floors to contrast the brick walls, with glass railings enhancing visibility between floors. A fireplace in the restaurant offers a warm welcome to the guests of the brick inn.
